The Best in Men’s Style

I really couldn’t love a blog more than I do Street Etiquette. Bloggers Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs, who are a mere 20 years old (!) and totally hunky, organize their thoughtful, stylish entries buy article of clothing such as berets, corduroy, jean jackets, chambray, and my own personal current love, jungle boots.

They present suggested ways to wear each item and bits of history, shopping guides and inspiration. Their photography is gorgeous, they have distinct character that lots of style blogs lack, and I like me some clothing and accessories close ups like nothing else.

This is a great example of engrossing and thorough blogging that is near perfect in it’s execution and usability. I’ve been raving about it to anyone that will listen since discovering it a couple days ago.

While I’ve always said I’d never like working in menswear, because it would be sooo boooring, I have to admit, thanks to stellar dapper gents like these, I am becoming more and more intrigued with the details of slacks, ties and buttons downs.

Part the reason for my new passion is that I now have a son who I get to dress for at least the next five odd years (if Jim refuses to roll up his pants and nix the socks, fine but Van can’t if he can’t talk!) and part of the reason is that since I no longer get to get dressed up for work, I am starting to live vicariously through Jim.

I’ve even asked if I can pick outfits for him and am bugging him to add neckties to the daily rotation. Street Etiquette is sure to inspire some looks I will be coaxing him to try.

Music Downloads

A subscription to emusic was my birthday gift to myself. Not finding satisfaction with any free services – which either have a very limited selection and or don’t let you keep any music – I decided to look into paid services for my music needs.

I find itunes too expensive and can’t always find what I need, so emusic, a monthly subscription site (you get a certain number of credits each month that carry over if unused) that features more obscure stuff as well as the more mainstream, sounded good.

The fact that albums cost half what they normally would (usually around $6) sealed the deal. The easy browsing searches have already introduced me to new fabulous things (like recent pick, Darondo) and a nifty “save for later” feature helps me make sure I don’t forget albums that interest me.

Added bonus points and discounts were a nice addition. Once my new month credits come, I think I’ll finally get that Grinderman album which is exciting.

Digital Library

The Museum of the City of New York just put over 50,000 enthralling images of the city’s past online. Quite an undertaking and one that should be greatly appreciated by anyone curious and enchanted with the way things used to be in this vibrant, ever changing city.

Featuring the work of some of the most talented documentary photographers including Berenice Abbott and Jacob Riis, it’s fun to go through familiar neighborhoods and streets to see what they looked like over a hundred years ago. The museum is working to add even more images from their archive soon.

Gourmet Cooking By A Regular

Amelia, the blogger behind Bon Appetempt is kind of my kitchen opposite. While I love the idea of making time consuming, multi step meals and snacks, I never, ever have the patience for it myself. Bon Appetempt, however is all about the harder to make delicacies from kim chee to donuts, from galette to osso buco. As she explains herself:

“Bon Appetempt motto: tackling semi-ridiculous to outright ridiculous gourmet and/or seemingly intense recipes, despite my novice skill set and average-at-best collection of kitchen appliances and cooking tools.”

The photos of her often successful attempts are beautiful and even inspire me to try a few once I can get some time in the kitchen. Or, better yet, I should pass this link along to our own kitchen maestro, Mike and see if he’ll take on some of the tougher recipes while we enjoy the results.

With the holidays coming, the extensive site should yield some awesome ideas for impressing the family and friends.
