Style Icons: Male »Charles Addams

Whatever your opinion of the television series and movies that gained wider popularity and recognition than their source material, you really should take a look at the wry and darkly hilarious work of Chas Addams.

A beloved cartoonist for the New Yorker, who relished in presenting a humorously macabre image to the public (he'd have his photo taken with a collection of crossbows or wearing a suit of armor), Addams created his most famous fictional family with the help of friend Ray Bradbury.

I would leaf through my dad's collection of his cartoons and laugh and laugh as a little girl, and I still find them wonderful.

Style Icons: Male »Antonio Marras

I can't say Kenzo has ever been a runway show I've looked forward to with anticipation, but it was certainly one of the most stimulating shows from Milan in my opinion.?/p>

Antonio Marras, who was hired as the house's new creative director last year, mixes the best trends of the season – boxy menswear jackets belted with perfect pants, worldly prints mixed with plaids and stripes… It's a refreshing grown-up look that's still whimsical and fun. He surprises too with a splash of bright chiffon inspired by a 1970's view of gorgeous nomadic women.

Style Icons: Male »Irving Penn

No one can have looked at a fashion magazine or had any knowledge of photography without knowing the images and name of Irving Penn. The forward thinking and classic image taker died last week at age 92. He left behind a legacy of amazing photographs and I am thrilled to read that the J Paul Getty Museum is currently showing the most extensive collection of his work. Wish I could get to LA in time to see it.

Style Icons: Male »Christophe Decarnin

My mother could handle me leaving the house in straw cowboy hats, Rasta colored skull caps, Contempo Casuals maxi skirts, fake fur shrugs, and even leather mini dresses (I swear, bought at the Gap), but when it came to ripped up jeans she finally drew the line. Mind you, I still walked out of the house defiantly in the trend, but she was left dismayed. Just imagine if I were a fashion conscious youth of today and dreaming of doing it for around $900 – inspired by the extremely coveted torn and tattered, but simultaneously glitzy and tailored, looks of Balmain's Christophe Decarnin.

True, his recent collection didn't turn any major pages from where he's sizzled and made jacket lovers swoon for the past few seasons, but who says fashion has to move so fast, especially when his Michael Jackson jackets of Spring '09 and his pointy shoulders and bandage sequins of last season still feel so fresh and timeless despite being equally trendy?

Style Icons: Male »Duro Olowu

duro olowuIf you lined up my wardrobe next to the Duro Olowu Spring line, it would be no surprise that I am an immediate fan. Mixing brights, prints, and shapes is a practice I adore, but know first hand that it's not always easy to pull off.

A newish name to me, and fairly new to the entire fashion scene – Olowu represents everything I particularly love about London fashion week, it's so much more vibrant and wild than ours. It makes me make me giddy just to think of his daring ditsies, African prints, geos and lace. But it makes me sad that he's such an exclusive designer with the price tag to match. Guess I'll just have to take cues from his designs and start mixing up my own clothes.

Style Icons: Male »Peter Som

peter somI love Peter Som's Spring collection! It's like an eccentric old lady meets her feminine socialite of a granddaughter. The unexpected combination of fabrics, silhouettes, textures, colors, and print is delightful.

I look forward to approaching my own wardrobe with his whimsical eye and dressing to the tune of overall directive of “extreme happiness”.

Style Icons: Male »Jan Van Eyck

jan van eyckThe Flemish and Dutch paintings area at The Met is one of my favorite places to stroll in the city. There's something other worldly about the quality of light and the serene portraiture that I adore.

Jan Van Eyck is perhaps the most accomplished painter of 15th Century and his masterworks: The Ghent Altarpiece and Arnolfini Portrait are spectacular. The Crucifixtion: The Last Judgment is on display at The Met.

Style Icons: Male »Patrick Swayze

patrick swayze road houseIt's easy to go Swayze crazy when you take the time to appreciate his fun career (hello Road House, Point Break, and Donnie Darko!). The once top billed star made women of all ages sigh and daydream at the idea of being lofted in the air mid-dance or making pottery muck love.

Among his listed quotes are “Good looking people turn me off. Myself included.” Sadly he reported as losing a painful fight with pancreatic cancer and all our hearts go out to him.

Style Icons: Male »Bill Gates

bill gates fashionNot only has Bill Gates genius made a new nerd world order, it would seem from these decades old photos (found on Gizmodo) that he's stood for a solid geek chic heavily reliant on good old sweaters.

While I am no fan nor even dabbler in the world of Microsoft, I can appreciate a man who spends his fortunes to help others, and knows how to layer for a mug shot.

Style Icons: Male »Angus Young

angus youngAC/DC was a major symbol of a kind of frightening and exciting rebellion to me as an impressionable young lady. Older sisters of friends listened to it and told me while primping in in cosmetic filled bathrooms that the name stood for All Children Deceive Christ while meanwhile plotting the next beer stealing escapade with boyfriends' trucks from the local Safeway.

Angus Young's always been my favorite and with his devil horns and little boy school uniform, the most visible and emblematic of the group. Not a huge surprise since he's the one that started the whole thing. And, as much as I love the other stories about the name, in reality, when he formed the band as a undoubtedly rascally little teen in Scotland, the name AC/DC came from the back of his sisters sewing machine.

I personally missed the recent concerts, even had to say no to buying some tickets off a friend because of other obligations, but have read that he's still a wild man on stage.
