Restaurants »Supper

Supper 156 East 2nd Street Unpretentious and really, really good food. Their chicken cutlet is so simple and delicious it completely changed my mind-frame about cooking to a “less is more” theory. Observing my favorite restaurant decor (warm, dark, cozy, and inviting), Supper is a great place for a romantic dinner or a dinner with friends. I hope to return soon to try more of the menu, but I can already recommend the pear and gorgonzola risotto.

Restaurants »Djerdan

Djerdan 221 W. 38th St. If you end up working in the culinary wasteland of Midtown,
you will thank me for the tip. This Balkan restaurant is affordable and inviting. Their specialty is Burek – a phyllo layered pie with different stuffings. Other items on the menu are outstanding too. Including the green salad with feta and the grilled kabob sandwich (just thinking of this sandwich makes me hungry). End it with a Turkish coffee and you are ready to go back to work.

Restaurants »Zipi Zape

Zipi Zape, 152 Metropolitan Ave Brooklyn ;We recently shared many tapas with friends and absolutely everything was good. Never miss an opportunity to try the razor clams if they are available. All goes well with the Spanish beer, Alhambra, and you won't even be distracted by the hideous cartoon characters Zipi and Zape that line the walls, as you will be too busy oohing and awwing over the food.

Restaurants »Pravda

Pravda 281 Lafayette Street between Houston and Prince Streetsunderground bar/restuarant is run by the same people as Balthazar and Pastis. We had several small dishes to share. I recommend the Crispy Horseradish Oysters and the suprising Blini with Smoked Sturgeon. I also recommend coming early–it gets crowded with people you don't want to hang out with around nine thirty.

Restaurants »R.U.B.

R.U.B. 208 W. 23rd Street R.U.B. stands for Righteous Urban Barbeque. And it deserves the name. We went with a large group and everyone enjoyed their meals, from bbq chicken sandwich with “sloppy toppies” (in this instance meaning coleslaw) to bbq half duck. Most of us opted for ribs and as you can see from Mike and Astrid's before and after shot, our plates were licked clean.

Restaurants »Enid’s

Enid's Jim and I go every weekend for brunch. Seriously, every weekend.
I get the fried cheese grits, he the eggs benedict or hungry bear. And if you ever see apple cheddar pancakes on their specials board – you MUST try them. Also an attractive, friendly staff.

Restaurants »Vietnam Banh Mi So 1

Vietnam Banh Mi So 1 This is amazing and it's really cheap too. French bread with Vietnamese cold cuts are a match made in a colonial culinary dream. There's one with pate (which is awesome) and there's one that's just called the Number 1. You probably should get them both.

Restaurants »Yakitori Oh! Taisho

Yakitori Oh! Taisho Everything on a stick.
This place is so authentic, I half expected to be called back from retirement to hunt down four Replicants.

What, no Blade Runner fans here?
