Restaurants »Chai

Chai in Williamsburg Whenever I return home from being away, delivery from Chai is what I crave the most. Every dish on the menu is tasty, most especially the Spicy Beef Bamboo Shoots and the Pad See Ew.

If you can't get it delivered, the restaurant is comfy and inviting with exemplary service. Slightly off the beaten path in Williamsburg, not many people give Chai a chance next to the glitz of Sea (too oily for my taste) and juggernaut Planet Thai.

Restaurants »Ruby’s

Ruby's After confronting a line of about thirty people waiting for a brunch seat at Clinton Street Bakery Co, we wondered to this tiny Australian Soho cafe because I had read a good recommendation. What a pleasant surprise. They have really good coffee, a pleasant staff, and let me just tell you about the Whaley burger. Fresh ground beef, pineapple, beets, ketchup and a fried egg. I find myself craving it often and will most likely make Ruby's a regular stop for me to taste it again and again. And if you care about your heart and cholesterol, there are plenty of healthier menu options.

Restaurants »Fornino

Fornino Sometimes you just have to realize how lucky you are for all the little things. I, for instance, can have this fresh pizza perfection delivered any night of the week. Made from ingredients from their own greenhouse with many tasty menu options, you never have to eat a slice of pizza that drips grease in Williamsburg again.

Restaurants »Lederhosen

Lederhosen A recipe for fun: book a big table, invite all your friends, enjoy really good bratwurst, potato pancakes, schnitzel, and potato salad, have many pitchers of Heiffeweiss, stumble home, and love your life. Lederhosen has become a staple for my friends and I (thank you Astrid for introducing us). A very friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere, great food, and always a guaranteed wonderful time

Restaurants »Fatty Crab

Fatty Crab Jim took me here for my birthday and it's been a long time since I have had such a wow-ing meal. From the green mango with a sugar salt chili powder dip, then on to the unbelievably good quail egg shooters (lined up in degrees of spiciness, served in their own shells), to the almost no-need-to-chew- tenderness of the short ribs with melding flavors of sweet and salty to the grand finale of the chili crab (pictured) – a huge bowl of slathered tasty shelled crab with a pungent delicious sauce (don't wear anything too nice with this dish – you will get messy) – this is one of the most memorable meals we've had in the city.

I can't wait to go back and try all the other yummy sounding dishes on the menu. The staff is unpretentious, the atmosphere is bustling and comfy – the only downside -no reservations. We ate an early dinner around 6:00 – by the time we left – 7:30, there was a line out the door.

Peasant Jim and I went here last Valentine's Day and had a romantic scrumptious meal. The rabbit lasagna special was particularly memorable. The ambiance is comfortable and perfect for l-o-v-e. Peasant recently made New York Magazine's top 100 restaurants. Here is their review.

Restaurants »Good World Bar and Grill

Good World Bar and Grill 3 Orchard Street If I were pressed into naming my favorite restaurant in New York, Good World would be it. Swedish meatballs, potato pancakes, gravlax, foie gras, and herring – the menu reads like food pornography for me – and every single dish is more than excellent. Also try the Berzerker cocktail. This is a great place to take someone as a birthday gift. hint.

Restaurants »Schiller’s Liquor Bar

Schiller's 131 Rivington, Lower East Side A very pleasant atmosphere and even if it does get a bit crowded, it is a warm happy crowd in flattering lighting. Friendly service and great food at the right price. I recommend the moules frites and the hamburger.

Restaurants »Bright Food Shop

Bright Food Shop A refurbished diner in Chelsea (between 21st and 22nd), this Mexican-Asian Fusion restaurant is very inviting and has almost overly friendly service. The posole and chili are excellent – both served with some pretty fantastic cornbread. One word of warning – the prices are higher than you might expect from a Mexican restaurant. Also has a specialty food store next door called The Kitchen Market.
